Paris in the springtime is one of the most popular times to visit the city of light. The weather is in a season of transition. You can expect crisp mornings and evenings, rain showers, and beautiful and warm golden sunshine. I always recommend packing layers to stay warm and feel pulled together while out and about or at dinner.
I have spent many years visiting Paris in early spring. Here are five must-pack items for March.
A Classic Trench Coat
I bought my Sézane trench coat years ago, and it has been worn often in spring and fall. A classic trench is a trend for Parisian women in the spring. The Scott trench coat is the original Sézane style; the Clyde is the more updated, trendier version that has sold out multiple times.
Another affordable option for trench coats can be found at J.Crew.
Comfortable Walking Shoes
Comfortable walking shoes for exploring Paris are so important. You will want to wear shoes that have been broken in and feel comfortable walking in for a few miles. Sneakers are trending in Paris and great with a pair of jeans or trousers. You will want to save the workout sneakers for the gym.
Great options for sneakers include Vejas, Sambas, and New Balance.
Ballet flats and loafers are popular styles for French women. I love Margaux flats and pack them for Paris on almost every trip except for the winter.
A Scarf For Layering and Keeping Warm on Crisp Days
Paris mornings can start crisp and warm up throughout the day. The French love a scarf in any season. Spring scarves can be lighter in material than chunky winter scarves. They are a great way to add color to a neutral outfit.
Tie a scarf around your neck or use it as an accessory on your bag or hair.
Crossbody Bag for Days and Evenings Out and About
A crossbody bag is an excellent accessory for keeping your belongings in one place as you explore Paris. I always recommend one with a secure closure for safety. Keep the bag closed when you are out and about exploring. To travel light, you need only a phone, keys, lipstick, and a credit card.
As a photographer, I travel with my camera and, when out and about, opt for a larger bag from Cuyana. It all depends on personal preference. When I go out in the evenings, I grab my Sézane Claude bag.
The Polène numero uno bag is a classic Paris style.
A Travel Umbrella: Compact for Carrying
Expect a rain shower at some point during your trip. The weather can change in Paris quickly. Blue skies can turn into a rain shower with a moment's notice. I typically pack this lightweight umbrella in my bag. On a recent trip, I discovered this umbrella with UV protection from Uniqlo. (They think of everything) It is $25 and a great item to add to your travel bag.
Of course, there are some great things to do in Paris on a rainy day. Don’t let this stop you from enjoying your Paris vacation.

Great suggestions. Loving those purses!! 🥰🥰❤️❤️
I’m starting to think about what to pack for my trip to Paris next month so I’ll be saving this. Of course can’t really start until I see the forecast, but I’ll be saving this and using it as one of my templates. Thank you!
