Summer travel is on with trips booked for the City of Light. This post will share some ideas on what's currently trending among Parisians in terms of accessories. Pack these five key items for your summer trip to add to your neutral wardrobe and classic pieces to bring out your French girl chic.
Sunglasses for Paris
For sunglasses, I have noticed that large frames are trending. Jimmy Fairly is the French equivalent of Warby Parker and has several locations around Paris. I also love Ippizi, which has multiple stores around Paris. Stylish sunglasses are a great accessory to add to your
Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sun hat are always a good idea, especially in the summer months.
Paris Summer Accessories: Hats
Sun hats for Paris include a variety of different styles. Baseball caps, straw hats, and bucket hats are all great options. Depending on the size of the hat, you may want to wear it on the plane while you make the journey to Paris. There are also some great foldable straw hat options. I love this hat from ME+EM, and a more affordable option is this one from Madewell.
Bags to Carry in Paris: Summer Accessory Ideas
Basket bags are a French summer staple. The woven trend is also huge right now in bags and shoes. For bags, a cross-body (fanny pack) option, which the French call a "banana bag," is a favorite, such as the Clare V "banana bag." The neutral brown goes with everything and is easy to style with a neutral color palette.
Madewell makes a beautiful woven bag, but it doesn't zip at the top. This could be great for picnics, books, and carrying essentials that you don't need to worry about, such as your phone, camera, and wallet. The basket bags from Sézane are classics for Paris summer fashion. I own this one and use it in different ways throughout the summer. It is perfect for a market visit.
Travel Umbrellas For Paris Rain Showers
I always recommend packing a travel umbrella (this one has UV protection) in my bag; you never know when rain will pop up in the Paris weather forecast. I have been surprised every trip with a sprinkle or shower—plan for one or two rainy days when considering your Paris outfits. A light jacket, such as a leather or denim jacket, should suffice. Depending on the weather and time of year, you can skip your trench coat. It is more common to see French women wearing a trench coat in spring and fall.
Tips to Stay Cool During Paris Summer Weather
Layers are a great way to adjust to a shift in the weather. The Parisian style currently involves draping a light sweater, blazer, or jacket over your shoulders without putting your arms through. I saw multiple Parisian women sporting this look in May.
Sunscreen is a Must for a Summer in Paris
Don't stress about forgetting sunscreen or packing a TSA-friendly tube in your luggage. Paris pharmacies offer a wide variety of French beauty brands, all of which provide excellent sun protection. Look out for the sunscreen sticks near the cash register. These will come in handy in your crossbody bag or day bag for reapplication.
Favorite brands for sunscreen include EltaMD, Caudalie, and La Roche Posay.
Heat waves are not uncommon in France, and you want to be prepared by checking the forecast in advance of your trip.
Linen pieces, such as this dress, a linen shirt, and shorts, are all great for staying cool in hot weather.
Comfortable Walking Shoes For Paris in Summer
Comfortable walking shoes are key. From experience, I can say these sandals hold up to the test for walking the cobblestone streets of Paris. They form quickly around your feet and provide good support. These ballet flats are a twist on the classic look with a bit more trend focus on the woven look. I have the classic Demi and the basket woven. These are surprisingly very comfortable shoes.
Sneakers are popular; you could add a green or metallic color, or opt for the classic white sneakers. French women are currently wearing a variety of styles, including skirts, dresses, and wide-legged pants.
Paris Bag Ideas for Summer Travel
For longer days, when I am out and about in Paris, I typically bring my Cuyana top zip tote. I find a zippered tote is essential to keep all my belongings safe. My camera is with me almost 100% of the time. Tap to pay on your phone is a standard option for making payments for everything from coffee to meals. It's a good idea to have a small wallet with a credit card and some cash when you're out and about.
Summer Scarves for Paris in the Summer
Parisians love a good scarf, regardless of the season. When it comes to summer weather, they tend to opt for lightweight fabrics such as linen and silk. Tie a scarf around your neck, in your hair, or on your handbag for a pop of color.
Anthropologie and Madewell have some adorable summer scarf prints right now.

Neutral colors are key, and adding a pop of color, such as red, pink, or butter yellow, is a great way to make a statement with your Paris summer style.
I am all about adding a belt to a dress or skirt this summer. It elevates a look.
