My favorite Paris ritual is also a sad personal story, and I hope I don’t bring the mood down by sharing it. In early 2024, my husband and I decided to go to Paris for our 10th anniversary (in December 2024). I started following the Everyday Parisian site and emails at that time, and we had a tradition of having coffee and croissants on Sunday mornings while I filled him in on highlights from the newsletter and the Links I Love. We had a great time planning during those mornings, and our trip was wonderfully magical. In fact, while we were there, I first read the exciting news about the book deal.

Unfortunately, my husband was killed in a highway accident this past October, and I am heartbroken. But I cherish the memories and the photos from that trip, and i am so grateful we were able to have that experience. I would love to go back to Paris and experience it during warm weather months, but I worry that I will never be able to do it without being haunted by memories. Maybe in a few years. But until then, I still do coffee on Sunday mornings while reading the newsletter, and even occasionally remember to pick up a croissant to enjoy with it.

Hi Deb,

I am so sorry for the loss of your husband. Thank you for sharing these beautiful memories with me. I know it won't be easy, but I hope you can experience Paris again without being haunted by memories. When you are ready, Paris will be waiting for you.

The city has a magical way of healing the heart. Sending you lots of love.

I will be thinking of you on Sunday mornings while you read the newsletter with a coffee and croissant.

xo

One of my favorite things to do in Paris is to stroll around the familiar streets in the 6th and take a coffee to Jardin du Luxembourg and just enjoy the beauty all around me. Listening to passers by speaking French is like music to my ears and happiness in my heart.

My husband & I had a dream that we made together: to own an apt in Paris in the 7th so when our kids were grown and no longer at home, we could retire 2 to 3 months out of the year in our favorite place in the world Paris. The timeline was by my 50th birthday, which we did! We loved our little “piece of heaven on earth “ at 83 rue St. Dominique. We both cherish this place and loved every minute of having it together and sharing with our family and friends. So many milestones in Paris - our “lune de miel”; John’s 50th bday at Jules Verne; my 50th at Le Louvre; my son’s engagement; my sons wedding this past July….

Life has a way of making us humble and my husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and passed away a year and a half ago. I’ve been to Paris several times since then, and my ritual is to go by the entrance to “our” building and remember the wonderful memories that he and I made together with our kids and family and friends. Although my Parisian times will never be the same, I am so glad I have this touchstone to look back on. Rituals are important to make as well as to keep! I am blessed to have had them with my best friend. And I will never stop reliving the Parisian rituals that he and I did together…

Walking up the Rue Montorgueil with my husband and stopping at ALL the patisseries and getting a treat from each. Then going to G Detou for some amazing local products and the pharmacy at Les Halles to stock up. I love using my Parisian foods and pharmacy products to bring a little Paris back home.

First thing we do in Paris is have a crepe at the stand on Blvd. St. Germaine!

Another ritual is a stroll through Jardin du Luxembourg.

My favorite Paris ritual is to buy flowers, get a nice bottle of French wine, light my Costes candle, put YouTube screen of Paris on my tv and listen to jazz, I do this all the time so much that when I don’t my kids ask me if I’m ok, and why don’t I have my Paris vibe going!

As the sun sets and work fades - we enter into the soft glow of the Apéro.

Gold-rimmed glasses of rosé meet the crisp snap of radish and salt.

A simple table becomes a sanctuary for slow, unplugged conversation.

In this sacred pause, the spirit of Paris is poured and shared at home.

Somehow over our 18 year marriage, Paris has become the city my husband and I visit most. We had no money when we married and didn't go on vacation for years. We finally saved enough money to go to Paris one December. I had been before but he had not. I exhausted him with all there was to do, see and eat. As we got on a better financial footing, we have somehow ended up in Paris the past 5 years, for a few days at a time. We have some of the same rituals we have developed - wine and the duck hot dog at La Avant Comptoir. sharing macarons in the Luxembourg Gardens, finding one new museum we haven't visited yet and a night out of fancy cocktails at a different bar each time. It is truly our favorite city to wander in, experience the light and be brave to try something new.

I love traveling and discovering new places but I will always come back to Paris. Where food, style, old world beauty, history, and the LIGHT merge into a storybook. I love simple walking in Paris and getting lost. I love being a flaneur. Old chapels, wine bars, boutique hotels, scarves for days, and effortless, natural beauty. A walk along the Seine for hours is a must!

I have never been to Paris (a huge dream of mine) but took seven years of French classes so love all things French and savoir vivre! My favorite ritual is using the best of what I have and not save it for a "rainy day." I also love to sit when I eat or enjoy a cup of café. I savor the moment and don't rush. I cannot wait to experience Paris in person one day in the near future!

My favorite Paris ritual is to locate a Bistro bustling with locals. To sit with my husband at a table in the corner and enjoy a glass of champagne while we people watch, chat with locals and pet their dogs. Our first trip to Paris we stayed in the 17th loved L’Endroit. I’m enjoying reading everyone’s ritual; so lovely.

My favorite things to do in Paris are hours of cafe time/people watching, loads of walking (so many steps logged!), visiting gardens and luxuriating in the most amazing museums. Plus trying so many pastries! 🥐 By the way, todays’s live event with Paula was one of my favorites! It was like watching a chat between two close friends who also happen to be oh so talented but still down to earth.

I haven't been to Paris in years...so would love to return! My favorite things was to go on the roof of my apartment and watch the sun set beyond the Eiffel Tower before it was lit up. I'm sure it is quite beautiful now.
