Favorite French Brands on My Radar

Why they should be on yours too.

Paris has become my second home. I travel back and forth from Chicago frequently for The Print Shop and blog. Over the years, I have thoughtfully added pieces to my wardrobe. One thing about the French is that they are more about quality than quantity. An investment shirt, bag, or accessory that is used on repeat. Built to last for years, not something that is fast fashion.

These are some of the brands I love and have discovered over time. Add these to your Paris map if you have an upcoming trip. If you can’t make it to Paris, these brands all ship to the US. Brands typically include the price of duties and taxes in the prices. Check with individual brands when purchasing if you have specific questions.

Rue de Verneuil

The bag brand you didn’t know you needed. I don’t know when I first discovered Rue de Verneuil. Maybe an Instagram post? I quickly saved the store on my Google Maps for my next trip to Paris. The store is very small in Palais Royal, tucked just around the corner from Café Kitsuné.

You may just miss it walking by; I must have passed it so many times until I made a point to seek it out. There is just enough room for one staff member, and a lot of the bags and colors are tucked behind drawers in their sleek setup and wall design.

Rue de Verneuil bags come in multiple sizes. I own the M, and the brand surprised me with a bag that just arrived while I was in Greece. Every size has a purpose, and they release new color combinations seasonally, making them addicting and hard to refuse.

The Traversée style is the brand’s signature.

So far, my color choices have been classic, but I am eyeing the stripes next.

They do run a few sales; you can shop them in Paris or sign up for their emails, which will send you sale notifications. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. They fold up, making them very easy to pack for a trip. If you need an extra bag while traveling, this is a great option.

Some sizes offer a crossbody strap, giving you multiple ways to wear the bags.

Color combinations vary by season. Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer.

Gerard Darel

Gerard Darel has been around since the 1970’s with classic styles such as the Anna jean and Jackie necklace. Expect to see more of this brand in your Instagram feed and while shopping in Paris. Their Saint-Germain-des-Près store is worth a visit. Block off some time to try on a few things. The sizing may vary from what you are used to in the US. Don’t look at the numbers, just work with what works best for your body.

The 24 H bag is their iconic signature bag, available in a variety of patterns, fabrics, and styles. Built to take you through a 24-hour period, it is large enough to stash a good amount of items inside. For mothers, women on the go, and anyone with a busy lifestyle, this bag is perfect. I have my eye on the woven style next.

They also make a smaller version that I love: the 12 H. I carry this one often and own it in black.

Majestic Filatures: The T-Shirt Brand You Will Love

I discovered Majestic Filatures by a fluke. While in Paris, I needed a white T-shirt. The one I had was dirty, and I wanted to wear a clean one for a photo shoot. I ran to Bon Marché at literally the last hour. They had one white T-shirt left in the department I was in and only one size. It was a make-or-break moment. The price was higher than I had ever paid for a T-shirt. I bought it.

To my surprise, it is the T-shirt I love most in my entire closet. I hate when it is dirty and in the laundry basket, and I probably wear it once a week. Under sweaters in the winter and with jeans or shorts in the summer. It has held up to washing and wearing and truly is worth the investment.

On my return to Paris, I checked the tag for the brand name and made sure to mention it to my friend Katie, raving about the T-shirt. The brand was new to me and quickly on my radar. While in Paris in January, I stayed just a few doors down from a store location and popped in. Luckily for me, they were running sales, and I grabbed multiple shirts in my size in different colors.

For size reference, I wear a 3 and am bigger in the chest. It is best to check the size guide to see what will work best for you.

They also have incredible sweaters that I have my eye on next. I will get pushback on the price on this one; they are cheaper in Paris than in the US. But I promise you, once you try them, you will notice the difference.

Les Composantes (Sézane’s Home Line)

Did you know Sézane has a home line? Designed inspired by vintage decor. The line covers everything from cushions, lamps, tableware, and candles. I have slowly collected pieces over the years.

First, the cushions on our couch, followed by the lamp on our mantle. We also have this candle that smells like campfire that sits in our entry.

We have the large cushions for our couch and ended up buying four. They are an investment but have had them for a few years, and they have held up well.

In the morning hours when it is still dark in the fall or winter, or a storm rolls in, I love to turn on the lamp and light a candle. It makes the room so much more cozy.

We have three different lamps, and they are all wired for the US. If you are in the EU, you will have the proper wiring. This is always a popular question from readers.

The lamp on our mantle is by far my favorite. It is larger than I anticipated, but we have high ceilings, and it really works.

Our green mini lamp in our foyer is also one I love to turn on in the early morning in the fall and winter.

Plus, the vase I get asked about every time I post it on Instagram. We have the Ecru, and the pop of color is always the bouquet inside.

Les Composantes has seasonal drops with updated fabrics and styles. You want to keep an eye on this Sézane extension. I think it is one to watch as they grow.

La Bonne Brosse

La Bonne Brosse is new to the Paris scene, founded in 2022. They have quickly gained popularity (my guess: social media). I made a point earlier this year to pop in and see what all the buzz was about. You can take an online quiz to find out what brush number is best for your hair. I let the staff guide me and ended up bringing home the #1, which turned out not to be the best brush for my hair. An expensive mistake, but I did get the VAT tax back, and I found someone to gift my brush to.

Amanda, who does my hair, suggested the #3, and I went back again to purchase the brush. This time around, I made a smaller investment and purchased the travel size. It was a great choice, and I love the brush. You can only use it on dry hair; water will damage the brush. I immediately notice a difference when I use the brush vs my Sisley brush. I use the Sisley Brush to blow-dry and follow up with my Bonne Brosse once my hair is dry.

So, yes, I get the hype. The brushes are expensive but an investment piece.

Soeur

Soeur is the French clothing boutique you may not have heard about until now. Maje, Sandro, Rouje, and Sézane get a lot of buzz. Add Soeur to your Paris shopping list. You can also shop online if you can’t make it to Paris; they ship to the US.

They have a more masculine cut and design, which may not be for everyone. What you shouldn’t miss are the bags and shoes.

For shoes, I love the slingbacks, and they run TTS. I wear a 39 for reference.

This is their signature bag style and one you will see out and about on Parisians.

Love the designs but not in your budget? They have an outlet in Paris. The Soeur Archives “outlet” is in the 7th, on 41 Rue de Bourgogne, close to the Rodin Museum.
