My Home Office Setup
How I styled my new/old desk
In 2020, I moved in with my now husband. It was just temporary in March, and after my lease was up in July, I made the official move. My furniture blended with his, and it took a few years for everything to settle. We changed, upgraded, and rearranged pieces.
There were two desks in my old apartment. I alternated between an antique I repainted a handful of times and a CB2 marble table. I worked from my laptop, writing blog posts late into the evening. It felt very much like Carrie in Sex and the City, with a view of the lake from my desk.
The antique desk I had was moved from our front room to the bottom of the stairs, and eventually to our bedroom. My husband moved a dresser out so the desk had a spot. It is a running joke between us that one day, I will have an office with a door.
After a few years, I upgraded from a laptop to a desktop. A game changer for productivity and my strained eyes. I don’t know how I waited so long to make the change. For travel, I also have a laptop and still frequently move around the house working from both for a change of scenery. This spot in the kitchen is a favorite.
The desk also got an upgrade to a CB2 Parsons desk and a black office desk chair. It worked great, but the whole area didn’t fit with the rest of the room. Once we got our new bed and end tables, my husband and I agreed we needed something different. While recently watching Something’s Gotta Give, I told my husband the office bedroom was what I was envisioning.
I had been looking for a new desk for a while and almost bought this one a year earlier. Ironic if you look at the antique we finally decided on, they look so similar.
My husband found the perfect desk on Facebook Marketplace. (You can read the story here in case you missed it.) After countless moves and desks, this is just right.
We framed this photograph of the Rodin garden above the desk.
The next challenge was finding a chair. I knew I didn’t want a traditional office chair, especially since the office setup is in our bedroom. We ended up using an old chair we had that wasn’t being used. It worked perfectly, and since the antique desk sits lower to the ground, the chair fit like a glove.
I love the extra storage the new desk provides for my papers, journals, and more. There is always a paper list running to the right or left of me. Ideas flood in, and I prefer putting them on paper before converting them to blog posts or newsletter ideas.
Henri naps while I work, and when he wakes, he immediately wants a snuggle. I quickly save whatever I am writing and pull him in for a hug.
The lamp is from Sézane, and I moved it from another spot in our home.
My top and skirt are from Kilte. *Gifted.
