The Paris Edit- May
A new favorite exhibition, The Eater Guide to Paris book giveaway and more
The Paris Edit for May is here with a little delay. I had this edit on my mind throughout my trip to Paris earlier in the month. May is busy in Paris, with tourism picking up momentum. Due to the Paris Olympics the previous year, a lot of people postponed their travel to this year. You could feel the energy and buzz of visitors.
May weather in Paris can be mixed; We had beautiful summer weather with a surprise hailstorm that dropped temperatures significantly. Layers are still important during May. A scarf, jacket, and sweater will all come in handy, along with an umbrella.
Paris in Bloom
Paris is in bloom in May. The poppies and roses start the next phase after the cherry blossoms have shed their last pink petals. Stop and smell the roses on café terraces and parks around the city.
Stroll through Luxembourg Gardens, the Tuileries, and Palais Royal to experience Paris in bloom. Each has its unique display of flowers and colors to welcome you.
On my latest trip, I loved strolling through Luxembourg Gardens and making great memories, looking for the last poppies. They typically bloom towards the beginning of May.
The Eater Guide to Paris
Don’t miss the newly published Eater Guide to Paris. Look to Lindsey Tramuta for some of the best advice on where to eat and drink in Paris. Discover Paris by neighborhood and add new and classic bistros, coffee shops, and bakeries to your must-visit list.
*I am giving away one copy to a lucky reader. Comment with your favorite Paris spot to eat, and I will choose one lucky winner on May 23.
What to Eat in May
Asparagus, zucchini, artichoke, and strawberries are all popular at the market. Look for lighter dishes such as artichoke salad, ceviche, and strawberry-focused desserts on menus.
Sip a glass of crip Rosé on a terrace or pair with goat cheese and a baguette at your favorite picnic spot.
A Must-See Exhibition
I mentioned the Robert Doisneau exhibition in last month’s edit and wanted to follow up. It was one of my favorite memories of the whole trip! I almost missed it, and Musée Maillol was just behind my hotel.
Not only was the exhibition beautifully done, but seeing people consume the black-and-white photographs one by one brought me to tears. You can buy tickets in advance online. On Wednesdays, the museum is open until 10 pm.
I purchased his stunning large coffee table book once I was home.
If you can’t make it to Paris in May
Shop your local farmer’s market and cook something from the fresh fruits and vegetables available. Peonies start to fade in France towards the end of May. In Chicago, the season is just beginning.
Add a fresh floral bouquet to your home and embrace the change of season.
May’s Best Dressed Paris Accessory: Sunglasses
The bigger, the better, is the trend I see the most. Protect your eyes from the sun and add a pair of sunglasses to your outfit. Jimmy Fairly is a French brand similar to Warby Parker; you will see it all over Paris. Pick up a souvenir of sunglasses during your trip.
I fell in love with these glasses while in Paris and didn’t want to run late to an appointment, so I left them behind. They are available here at Bloomingdale’s.
You can see the April Paris edit here.
*P.S. Don’t miss what I packed for Paris in May.
The best restaurant in Paris is the one that you find by accident.
Carrette in Place des Vosges. Hands down. Fabulous setting, French Onion Soup, Bouef Bourguignon, and baked goods to die for...🥐
