Weekend Notes from A Francophile #5
A quiet long weekend at home
Weekend Reading is up on the blog. The exercise that can help you recover from sleep debt, books to add to your summer reading list, and lessons from dining out seven days a week.
It is a relatively quiet long weekend at home. My husband and I travel quite a bit, and the last couple of weeks, we have been home.
It has been a good long stretch, and I am loving this extra time with Henri. He is sleeping by my feet while I type this.
This week was full of surprises. I was back at my dance studio for another class with a different teacher. This time around, it was a teacher whom I hadn’t danced with in years. *If you are new, this used to be something I did daily and loved. This led me to reconnect with old friends.
Upcoming Travel Plans and Events
I am in full-on prep mode for my upcoming summer show. If you are in Chicago, save the date for the weekend of June 13-14th. Also, I am excited to be back in California with Paula McLain for another book event in Sausalito on June 25.
Details coming soon. Plus, something exciting popped up for Paris that I am planning. My Cuyana passport wallet is back with my monogram and ready for summer travel.
This week, my husband and I had an early happy hour dinner at Galit. The pita and hummus are so good. It is worth going just for this!
The baklava at YaYa next door is delicious. I feel like I need to do a post on our favorite happy hour spots in the city.
Spring cleaning, I have been slowly letting go of clothing every week. If something new comes in, I have been donating or giving to a friend. It has been refreshing, and I feel a little lighter.
What I Have Loved This Week
Varley’s new arrivals are so good. I ordered this sweatshirt and shorts.
Pedicure weather is just about here. This color is my top pick for my next nail appointment.
I have been loving this face tape from Peter Roth Thomas. The package says you can see the results after one use, and I was shocked by how right they were. It took some adjusting to sleeping with the pieces, but I quickly got used to it. The under-eye patches were magic.
Recently, I shared some of my favorite beauty products. Update: I have been trying this eye cream and really like it.
Is it totally normal to misplace your reading glasses? I cannot find my new ones, and I ordered a second pair. They will eventually turn up. I also ordered a pair of sunglass readers. My vision is slowly changing, and I think this will make life a lot better this summer.
This striped sweater was in my cart for months and went on major sale. (an additional 30% off) I snagged it right away.
This boxy sweatshirt is super cute and currently on sale. (win/win) size up one.
What’s On Sale This Week
I pulled together a whole list in this post.
The highlights, Boll and Branch, is on sale. Buy two or more items and save 20%. We love our signature hemmed sheets and waffle blanket.
My Away suitcase is on sale.
Alex Mill is on sale. I love these tanks and wear them all summer long. Plus, I love a good ribbed Henley polo. They are one of my favorite pieces to put on at the end of the day after a long shower.
I bought this macaron toy for Henri. Currently on sale at Foggy Dog.
This Boden white dress is 30% off.

Regarding souvenirs, I have a "travel Xmas tree". For every one of our trips, I buy Xmas ornaments and that tree only has ones I've bought on trips. I have them from Paris, London, Scotland, Montreal, and US National Parks. Almost all souvenir shops at every touristy site sells them. If I had a way to attach a photo of that tree, I would. As I decorate that tree every year, I'm reminded of each of these trips, the impact the locations or site I had on me, and honestly, how lucky I am to travel.
