I've only been to Paris once, but we stayed in Saint-Germain and absolutely loved it! I wish I could remember the names of the cafes and restaurants we visited, but we didn't do much research--just popped into places that looked good--and we were never disappointed.
Saint-Germain IS very touristy but I love the hustle and bustle, and perhaps even the familiarity I have with the area (over 10 stays in Paris, different areas; two more coming up this year). But I appreciate this article and took notes for our next visit! Always fun to try new places to eat!
FYI, Isabelle's Patisserie at Maubert Mutalite is not in St. German-des-Pres. Not even close. Maubert Mutalite is in the 5th Arr., off Bl. St. Germain. My apt on the Ile St. Louis is close bhy ane I am at the Maubert Mutalite marche three times a week and I know it well,. And the croissants at Isabelle's are way over-hyped. Plus the staff is so ruee. Many other amazing croissants and patisseries in Paris with lovely staff.
Thank you so much for catching my error. I was thinking of another spot in the area and confused it with something else. Do you have a favorite close to your apartment that you would like to share?
It struck me because I am in Paris several weeks every year at my apt. on the Ile and the Marche Maubert /Pl Maubert -Maubert Mutualite is very very familiar to me. And of course I know where St. Germain-des-Pres is. I hope I didn't sound "snarky" lol! I have many favs close to my apt.-Boulangerie St.Louis on the Ile, Boulanger de la Tour, which is across from Tour D'Argent restaurant, Eric Kayser on Rue Monge... these are just a few-I could go on, bien sur! So many delicieuse patisseries in the 5th on on the Ile-and throughout Paris. These are but a few. Merci et bon journee!
Love this. We stayed near that area and I have to say Saint-Germain has my heart. I loved the pace, the shops, cafes, EVERYTHING. We were just there for Christmas and I'm hoping to go back soon
I took a trip to Paris in September and did some of these activities. Love the Musee D'Orsay and Luxembourg Gardens. And the fantastic cafes, brasseries and bars. Heaven on earth 🙏❤️
Great resources for the Paris lover!
Nice tips, thanks!!
